The Bahrain Film Festival has set the registration period for its upcoming third session, which is scheduled to be held in October 2023 in the capital, Manama, which starts from February 15th to no later than June 15th, 2023, and is organized by the Bahrain Cinema Club.


The director, Osama Saif, was chosen as the president of the festival, and the filmmaker, Ammar Zainal, the artistic director of the festival, who officially opened the door for participation in its competitions, which include 4 competitions, namely: the Bahraini films category, the short narrative films category, the documentaries category, and animation films, and on the conditions that the films are not The participation has been shown on social media platforms or the film has not been shown on any TV channel or via the Internet or mobile phone, and the duration of the participating film does not exceed (30) minutes.


The festival welcomes the participation of filmmakers to run for screening within the festival's programs and to compete for its prizes. Since its inception, the Bahrain Film Festival has continued to pay attention to Arab films, encourage creative Arab filmmakers, and deliver films through its agreements to many local and Arab film festivals.


Regarding the preparation for the preparations for the new session, Ammar Zainal, the festival's artistic director, said that the festival management prepared early for the festival this year, through preparations and preparations to organize the organizing committees and selections of highly experienced Bahraini competencies to present a successful session as an extension of the great success that was presented in the second session last year, and he added The success of this event, which bears the name of Bahrain in the schedule of Gulf and Arab film festivals, represents a new challenge that we present with great determination at the Bahrain Cinema Club. The final deadline for submission is June 15, 2023, as no films will be accepted after this date.


The Bahrain Film Festival aims to present a cultural cinematic event that provides a qualitative addition to the cultural movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and contributes to presenting a bright civilized image of the Kingdom to place it on the map of film festivals in the Arab world.

 

The festival seeks to celebrate young Bahraini and Arab cinematic talents, and to contribute to providing an appropriate environment for launching new cinematic talents and highlighting and advancing their creativity. In addition to contributing to the promotion and revitalization of the Bahraini cinematic movement, in order to achieve the desired addition to the cinematic movement in the Arab Gulf countries in particular, and to the Arab cinematic movement in general.

 

The organization of the festival comes as an extension of the Bahrain Film Club Competition, of which two rounds were held, the first in 2017 in which (15) Bahraini short films competed, and the second in 2018 in which (25) Bahraini short films competed.

It is art or a cultural artefact made by certain cultures, and films reflect and influence those cultures. And in our time, film production has become a huge market that is very popular and huge in different societies. Hollywood is considered the leader in the field of cinematic production of films in the world. As for the Arab world, Egyptian cinema is considered the most prolific and most followed in cinematic production.


Film can also be defined as a long narrow plastic tape on which cinematic images are printed. Cinematic films are divided, in terms of length, into “shorts” and “long” or “main” features. In the beginning, most of the films were short. The first extended film did not appear until 1912, and since then, extended films have occupied the largest part of concerts and film festivals. Short films can be divided into three types: documentary film, newsreel, and animated cartoon. Comic films became popular in the 1920s and culminated with Charlie Chaplin and his peers. Comics in that period were all short. Long or extended films are also types: they include sentimental films, social films, comic films, historical films, police films, musical films, horror films, etc. The films were initially silent, but they soon became verbal. It was black and white, but the color film soon after its release invaded the cinematic market and competed with the black-and-white film, a competition that almost destroyed it.


To produce a feature film, it must be based on a cinematic script “The Scene (Scenario)”, then the director does his work in interpreting the cinematic text and repeating the directing process through the directorial script, and manages the filming process and his own vision for the performance of the actors and the selection of appropriate filming locations according to what was stated in the cinematic script ,


He also chooses the music for the film through specialized musicians, divides the time of the film and manages the work entirely through a tight plan with multiple assistants. After completing the filming process, the duration of which varies from one film to another, there are some films that require six months of filming, and there are 3 weeks depending on the duration of the film.


Graphics and editing processes are performed on it, during which clips and scenes are combined with each other according to the directive text, and soundtracks and sound and visual effects are added. Private, so that the film is produced through that company or organization. There are independent producers who own their own companies, and in some cases the director himself may be the producer and finance his film entirely. The movie, and the distinctive and interesting scenes in the movie are chosen to attract the audience to cinemas as soon as it is officially released.
